Product description

This recall involves certain models of Frigidaire® and Kenmore Elite® freestanding electric ranges with a smoothtop cooking surface, rotary knobs, and digital readouts.

Recalled products have model numbers beginning with the following number and letter combinations and a serial number that falls within the following ranges. The model and serial number can be found by opening the drawer at the bottom of the range; the information plate which lists the numbers can be found on the right side of the frame.

Hazard identified

Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or 3) heat to different temperatures than those selected by unit controls. These situations pose risks of fire and burns to users.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these products.

Number sold

Approximately 31,789 units of the Frigidaire range and 22,125 units of the Kenmore Elite range were sold at various retailers across Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from June 2001 to September 2008.

Place of origin

Manufactured in Canada and the United States.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled electric ranges and contact Frigidaire to schedule a free repair. If the unit was purchased at Sears Canada, then consumers should contact Sears directly to schedule a free repair.
